• The United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper School.
• The USMC Scout Sniper School is widely regarded in the military as the finest sniper training program.
• The Marines offer a tremendous program that trains eligible sniper candidates in all branches of the armed services.
• The few candidates who are chosen to attend the school typically represent the some of the finest that branch of the service has to offer. Fewer still emerge… “Scout Sniper Qualified.”

Sniper History

• The verb to snipe originated in the 1770s among British soldiers in India, where a hunter who proved skilled enough to kill the elusive snipe bird was christened a “sniper”.
• The battle most synonymous with snipers is arguably the second world war struggle for Stalingrad, when Soviet marksmen inflicted sizable casualties on the advancing German army and inspired the 2001 film, Enemy at the Gates, starring Jude Law.
• Military snipers are typically deployed in two-man teams, a shooter and spotter, who often swap roles to avoid eye fatigue.
• The first British sniper unit originated within the Lovat Scouts, a Highland regiment formed during the Second Boer War in 1900. They were the first unit to wear a ghillie suit, camouflage clothing designed to resemble heavy foliage.
• One sniper doctrine recommends the selection of targets in descending order by rank to cause optimum disruption.
